Chapter 1-What Connected Educators Do Differently

After reading Chapter 1 from What Connected Educators Do Differently, I realized how important it is to have a PLN.  Twitter is a great way to connect to educators all over the world.  When I created a Twitter account in 2011, I didn't use it all that much.  I found myself just lurking onto what other people had to say and watching behind the scenes. I remembering thinking, do other people really want to hear what I have to say?  Well, with being a BTC for my building, I am encouraged to use Twitter to share what is happening in my school and classroom.  Once I started sharing pictures and ideas I had, people started to retweet and favorite my tweets.  It made me feel important and know people do like what I have to say.  Now, I try to tweet out at least twice a week if not everyday.  It is always nice to see all the other ideas that are out there that I can use in my classroom.  I would have to say I have great foundation of a PLN through Twitter.

  1. Thank you for your post Angie. I had the same feeling. I'm too just starting to get back into the "Twitter" world and would like to start posted at least once a week. It's not always easy, especially, with lots of other things going on.

  2. Angie, I love the post. I think the feelings you describe are true for most educators. We all feel to a certain extent that we don't have anything to offer other educators, and as a result, we are hesitant to share. I felt exactly the same way. But the reality is that we all have great things happening in our classrooms. If we impact even one other teacher through something we have shared just think how many students over time that will impact! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Angie! I can tell that you have made an effort to share what your school and students are doing in the classroom. You never know who might "see" your tweet and feel inspired. You are doing wonderful things in your classroom so keep tweeting and keep lurking---you never know what you might find or learn from someone in your PLN!

  4. I know what you mean about feeling like you don't have tweet worthy things to say. I feel that way even with followers. Since I started following more educators, I've noticed an increase in others requesting to follow me. I guess I better start tweeting!

  5. I always enjoy reading your tweets. I love watching how the iPad Academy can be so successful younger kids. You are a great teacher with so much to share! Keep tweeting!

  6. I felt the same way too, Angie. It is true that once others start to favorite or retweet it validates what you are doing and makes you more likely to continue tweeting.

  7. Angie, you described exactly how I have felt about blogging, twitter, etc.. I sometimes feel like I'm doing the whole 'LOOK AT ME' thing and it is hard to change that thought process. Just trying to use technology more and incorporate it daily into my classroom and for the staff. !t does start to become a habit.
